CIVIC is a secured identity management platform that provides blockchain based on demand and low cost assess to identity verification (IDV) on a global scale. The platform helps in eliminating the need to verify personal information and background everytime a new institution requires one.
The CIVIC mission states that they are here to provide every person on earth with a digital identity that they can use to interact privately and securely with the world.
The participants in this decentralised model will use the CIVIC token (CVC) to conduct business in IDV related services.
The process starts with the user downloading the CIVIC app, setting up an account and verifying their identity, thereby becoming a CIVIC user.
The identity requestor sets the requirements for the verification process and CIVIC's unique product offering allows real-time authentication of identity data and verification. The data is either verified by CIVIC or a CIVIC Identity Partner such as a government entity, financial institutes or employer.
CIVIC Data Verification
Once the user shares the identity data with CIVIC, it then uses multiple IDV channels to verify submitted data against phone, credit, social media and other public records. Combining these data with fraud detection algorithms, manual auditing and internal check mechanism, CIVIC maintains a high pass rate for legitimate users thus bypassing the risk from fraudulent practices by users.
The verified identity data is then sent to the user's CIVIC app and attestation to the blockchain.
Real-time Authentication: Once the user approves the request to send verified identity data to the identity requestor with a key to hash and blockchain address, the partner then verifies the data provided by the user and then independently conducts a real-time authentication of the data.
Security: The CIVIC app is developed on blockchain wallet software which adds teeth to the security of the platform with benefits such as Auxillary protection, Biometric protection and Blockchain secured.
Eliminates third-party authenticators, physical token and username/passwords: The verified user's data are stored on their devices and unless the user gives permission to verify the record, no one has access to the user's data on the platform.
Vinny Lingham, a South-African Internet entrepreneur and Jonathan Smith are the founder of the CIVIC app. They founded it in 2015 and Vinny is the acting CEO and Jonathan is the CTO of the organisation.
CIVIC has raised $33 million from its Initial Coin Offering in June 2017 and tokens are based on the ERC20 token.
Total Coin Supply: 1 Billion
